We are so pleased to have hosted the first-ever Maternal Mental Health Knowledge Exchange Workshop, in collaboration with our partners African Alliance For Maternal Mental Health (AAMMH) Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Ministry Of Health Malawi and graciously hosted at the KUHeS School of Nursing.
The workshop, themed “Holistic Maternal Mental Health Care”, brought together academics, researchers, healthcare workers, policymakers, community advocates, and women with lived experience. Our goal was clear: to discuss how to improve 360° mental health support for pregnant women and mothers.
Major highlights of the day included:
• The official dissemination of the Maternal Mental Health Manual. This new national guideline, endorsed by the Ministry of Health, is a milestone in improving maternal mental health care across the country.
• The screening of our documentary, “Maternal Mental Health in Malawi”. The film follows mothers from our Generation Malawi birth cohort in Area 25, Lilongwe, and Chilumba, Karonga, as they share their courageous journeys. • Insights into new maternal mental health curricula, healthcare delivery models, academic projects and policy-driven research from our diverse partners.
• An insightful panel discussion with leading experts, addressing the clinical and social gaps in our current system.
