In Lilongwe Area 25, MEIRU has established population-level research, starting in 2012 by enumerating resident adults for inclusion in an area-wide non-communicable disease survey.

Methods for this work are described in Emerging Themes in Epidemiology.

In 2016, re-enumeration is being conducted as part of developmental work preparing for a proposed urban demographic surveillance site and epidemiological sampling platform.

Lilongwe Area 25 can be sub-divided into 35 Enumeration areas, demarcated by the National Statistical Office during the 2008 population and household census, which have, on average 480 households each. These were used as administrative boundaries of “study zones” for the survey.
